Yep, truth be told I am more than a little angry about this whole HHS mandate thing. My wild imagination gets the best of me and I think of all sorts of worst case scenerios.
I think what most upsest me though is that people just don't seem to get this issue and what it is really about and what is at stake.
I got into a disagreement with someone on Twitter about the right to birth control versus the right to religious freedom. I just could not wrap my head around someone who can't see as plain as day what is really happening after I had just listened to an hour long program and was telling them what it was about.
Then I heard this.
"The truth is the truth even if nobody believes it, and a lie is a lie even if everybody believes it." -Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen
I wrote a post a long time ago about how relativism was driving me crazy. Obviously it still is. Just because something is accepted does not make it right. Just because it is common does not mean it follows common sense. Common sense is not so common any more.
There is such a thing as objective truth. None of this"What's true for me may not be true for you" stuff. There are just certain things that only have one right answer. The answer comes from THE Truth. To quote another favorite of mine. 'The truth isn't something, it's somebody, and His name is Jesus Christ." -John Corapi (Oh, how I wish we could still call him father!)
I realize some of the things I write are controversial and that not everybody likes them. It does me no good over the internet to try and convince people I am being sincere. I can try my best to tell the truth in love, but let's face it--sometimes the truth hurts. I know I don't like it when it is pointed out to me sometimes. But that doesn't make it any less true.
Not everyone who reads this is going to get it. Some people will be turned away, but in the end I have to stand up for what I believe in./';;
I know there are people out there who get nothing out of my blog (which begs the question "Then why do they keep reading it?") But I know there are people out there who get a great deal out of what I write.
Most of them are Protestant, so I think I see my mission here is as much about, if not more so, bringing unity among believers than bringing in new ones. So it is with great trepidation that I say I know the way to be unified. (I must be an equal opportunity offender after all.) It is:
-one (not divided)
-holy (Spirit led since 33 A.D.)
-catholic (which means universal. If your a baptized believer you're a part of my church.)
-and apostolic (taking it right back to the source)
If Christians of all denominations were to come back together and believe one thing (and, say, stop arguing about whether or not infant baptism is valid), then we could set this world on fire.
So I urge all who call themselves Christian to use this Lent to grow in your faith. (For starters if you're not sure what Lent is, look it up. That might be a good place to start.)
If your really brave, (and a nerdy academic type like me--he can be a bit hard to understand for some) look into getting yourself a Scott Hahn book and learning from mister "Luther in reverse" and finding out what's really in your Bible. He used to be Protestant so he has the whole Chapter and Verse thing down a lot better than I do.
I hope I have offended no one here (despite the sarcasm). I am just trying to help you all learn as much as I have over the last few years.
I hope to share more Lenten reflections this year on Fridays up till Easter. But for now I must go get rest. We are all sick. It sounds like an infirmary in here.
